Seting Up a Wordpress Blog (Part 4): Uploading Wordpress

Finally, today M! have some time to continue the tutorial on how to create a Wordpress blog without paying for domain name and hosting. The final step to this simple process is to upload the Wordpress software to the hosting that you’ve created. If you haven’t created one yet, check out how M!’s last post on how to get a free domain name and hosting package for free.How to get free hosting article is in Malay, but all you need to do is click the link provided.

To upload your Wordpress software, you need an FTP client software. M! use FileZilla it’s free and easy to use, you can download it here make sure you download the stable version and not the RC’s version. As I’m writing this the stable version is V 3.1.3.1 . Download the software and install it in your pc.

So now you have your uploader, you’ll need to download the files that you wanted to upload on to your hosting. Yes, you need to download Wordpress on their site over here. As I’m writing this post the stable version of Wordpress is 2.6.2 . Download and extract it, done.

Now that you have all the necessary software, you can start getting busy uploading your Wordpress.

First, open FileZilla (or any other FTP-client that you’re comfortable working with), type in all the infos. The “Address” is your site’s address, as example the test site that was done earlier. So M! type in “sitefortest.co.cc”.  “User” is your usename in your hosting, don’t worry if you forgot about this you can log in to your hosting’s cPanel and it’s there. Once the log in process is success, you’ll have this on you FTP-client software;

Click the “public_html” folder and delete the file in it, it should be the default.php file.

Now that you’ve downloaded and extracted the Wordpress folder, open it and in the Wordpress folder, find a file name “wp-config sample”. Open that file with an editor software, M! is using PSPad, it’s also a free software.

You should have something like this. Now you write in the highlighted fields with your database name, database username, password and database host, for this and I said this again for this type of installation (using this free hosting) that you are only to change the database hostname to like what M! have written here, it should be your MySQL host in your hosting account.

To get the database name go into your hosting account>Go to cPanel> MySQL. Scroll down and you see this;

Close your editor software, save it and rename the wp-config_sample to just wp-config. Done. Now we can upload. The Wordpress folder to the public_html. In your FTP-client, click the public _html and upload the Wordpress in that folder.

Now you just wait for the upload process to be completed. It depend on how fast your internet connection is. M! is uploding the whole Wordpress folder in one time. If you want to upload the files in the Wordpress folder on to your root, you click the Wordpress folder and select all files in it and upload it. It’s the same.The way M! is doing will result in sitefortest.co.cc/wordpress. No harm done that way.

So now it’s already finished the uploading process, type in your blog’s address on the browser. You will have this message;

Check and fill in the fields that are apply, and hit the install Wordpress button. You’ll received this message;

That’s it! It’s now done and you can log in to your account and start creating your first blog post.

Easy right?Click here if you want to see the final result.

Ciao!
